There’s nothing quite like sitting back and admiring your handiwork after decluttering your space – everything feels fresh and new, and that sense of achievement at the end so sweet! But not only does a good tidy and re-organisation of your space feel good, but it’s also good for the mind as you release all those things that have been filling up your space.
But, how do you choose what to get rid of, and which items you want to keep? Those knick knacks you’ve been holding on to in case they might come in handy one day, or because they have a memory attached – how do you ruthlessly let go of them?
Never fear – here are my top tips for decluttering your home:
Clever Bathroom Storage Solutions
If you’re anything like us then your bathroom will be full of lotions and potions, lined up along the edge of the bath or on the windowsill – but this can look so untidy! There are some fab storage options available for bathrooms though, whether you go for an under-sink unit that fits around the base, shelving fitted to the tiles (there are lots of options that can be mounted with suckers, so you don’t have to worry about any hefty DIY!) or even baskets hung from hooks that you can use to make a feature of your items. Space is quite often at a premium in bathrooms but with so many different options you’re bound to find something that works for you!
Shelving Is Your Friend
For so many years shelves were purely a functional item to have around the house, but as time has moved on and style has changed, they’ve become so much more than just somewhere to store your items – they’ve become a focal point of the decor! Jazz up your shelving by using materials like wood with metal brackets, or even painting them to bring some colour into your space. If you’re not in a position to make any permanent changes to your home, you can make a statement by colour coordinating the items on each shelf – for instance books – or adding quirky ornaments or lighting to give that pop of interest!
Sell, Sell, Sell! (or give to charity…)
One of the easiest ways to de-clutter, honestly, is to get rid of the items you no longer use! You can sell online via apps like Depop, Vinted and Schpock (to name a few) or even sell locally via Facebook Sales – or, if you’re an early bird, car boot sales are always a great way to make some extra pennies! If, however, you aren’t too bothered about making money, charity shops are always grateful of donations – a quick Google should tell you where your local ones are.
Aside from these simple changes, there are so many cool ideas online these days for streamlining our homes. From heat-proof plates from which you can hang your ironing board and iron, to dining tables with built in storage, and even stairs designed to hide drawers! (I think those are our personal favourite!)
If you’re looking for inspiration, there are lots of ideas available online – Pinterest is our go-to for much needed inspo – so why not have a think about how you can reorganise, decluttering and free up some space in your home?
