Your living room is one of the most important rooms in your house. It’s our destination of choice for relaxing, spending time with family or indulging in those much-loved marathon Netflix binges, so it’s important that it’s a comfortable and welcoming place to be. But what if your lounge is leaving you feeling cold? Don’t worry, I’ve got you sorted with some simple ways to make a living room more cosy.
Blankets or throws are the perfect way to cosy up on a rainy Sunday or chilly evening. There’s nothing better than getting all snug under a blanket and having a little sofa nap! And there’s such a huge range of choices out there – colours, styles, sizes, prices – you’ll definitely be able to find something that fits your style!
The perfect partner for any snuggly blanket is some squishy cushions. Whether you choose to go for matching items, or to try a mix and match combo, cushions are such a quick and easy way to add some personality to your room and give it a fresh new look. Consider getting a variety of textures too – knits, faux fur, elegant velvet… the cushion world is your oyster!
Getting the lighting right is crucial when you’re trying to make your space more cosy. A bright glaring light overhead isn’t going to be relaxing for anyone, so perhaps look at getting a dimmer switch so you can lower the lighting levels with a simple turn of a button. Table lamps are also a great way of not only getting the room lit in the best way possible, but there are such stylish options out there in the shops that they can act as a little artistic touch too. Or, if you’ve got the cash to spare and make a little investment – and a room that allows it – a log burner is a great way to make your home more cosy. Everyone loves a real fire to relax in front of!
Filling a room with your favourite things is a great way to make it feel more comforting to be in. Frame photos of your family and friends, or display items that have sentimental value. You don’t have to fill the room up, but a space full of treasured memories is one you can’t fail to feel better in. Nothing is more homely than a room full of the things you love.
If you’ve got a space, create a dedicated area specifically for those times you want to get cosy, relax and forget the worries of the world. Whether that’s making yourself a reading corner with book cases and a comfortable chair, a space for a beanbag and a blanket when you feel like you need a giant hug, or a space where you can see the outdoors and connect with nature from the comfort of the inside of your own home. The possibilities really are endless and can be as specific to your needs as you want them to be!
Our homes really are our castles and it is so important they are a space in which we can relax and recharge our batteries, so treat yourself and create your own indoor haven – you deserve it!
