How To Clean Copper Pans

Copper pans look beautiful in the kitchen, especially when they are hanging from the ceiling. They look awesome in a rustic looking kitchen. They have a beautiful and unique look to them, but they can be difficult to keep clean. Copper is a fairly soft material for pots and pans so they do need some extra care to look after them. It can get scratched really easy and the pan can oxidise and turn from that beautiful red/brown colour to black if they are not looked after properly.

When copper pans come into contact with water, they can oxidise and turn green, This is okay, it is called patina and it is there to protect the copper from eroding. Make sure you clean the copper pans regularly to prevent this patina from appearing. You love these pans so let’s make them last with some awesome tips on how to look after them.

Salt And Vinegar

Get yourself a spray bottle from your drug store, you can get one from the hairdressing section. Fill the spray bottle with vinegar and 3 tablespoons of salt. Shake the bottle until the salt dissolves and spray it on your pans. leave it on there for 10 to 15 minutes and then wipe it away.

Cream Of Tartare And Lemon juice

If you mix cream of tartar and lemon juice into a paste that is thick but spreadable. Then apply it to your copper pots and pans. Leave it to do its work for 5 minutes before you wash it off with warm water. Dry them straight away.

Worcestershire Sauce

Soak a sponge with some Worcestershire sauce and wipe it over the copper pots and pans. Leave it for about 5 minutes and then wipe them clean. Rinse the pots and pans and dry them off. The sauce will also help keep the colour in the pots and pans.

Half A Lemon And Salt

Slice a lemon and dip it into some salt, so they are covered in salt. Then you simply wipe the lemon over the stubborn stains of the pots and pans. It should help get rid of the stains so that they look good again on display.

Beer

Beer has been used for years to clean copper pots and pans. It is very acidic and helps to keep them clean. All you need to do is pour some beer onto the pan and leave it to work. Wipe it away when it has been cleaned.

Ketchup

Did you know that you can also use ketchup to clean your pots and pans? You just need a small amount on a sponge and wipe the pots and pans over. Leave it for a couple of minutes and rinse it away.

Copper pots and pans are great to use. You should buy heavy copper pots and pans because they won’t warp when they heat up. They look good in the kitchen as I wrote earlier and you will create some awesome memories when you cook some tasty creations in the kitchen.
