Renter Friendly Decor Hacks: Updating Your Kitchen

kitchen

Renting is great in many ways. It gives people the freedom to move around much more than owning a property does, for example. However, the downside to not owning your property outright is that often landlords and letting agencies don’t let you decorate your home as you’d like to.

Landlords don’t usually want you to change the way the property looks. Although we can understand this as tenants, it does sometimes leave us feeling a bit lacklustre when looking around our home. It’s hard to feel comfortable in a place you can’t fully make your own. Thankfully, there are quite a few renter-friendly decor hacks that’ll help you to jazz up your kitchen, without upsetting your landlord.

To find out how you can create a beautiful, stylish kitchen that’s brimming with personality without upsetting your landlord or letting agency, keep reading!

Let’s clean up the grouting!

The first step to decorating your kitchen in a renter-friendly way is to get started with a deep clean. Do you have tile flooring in your kitchen? If so, you’re going to want to get scrubbing! The grout in kitchen tiles often looks clean, but with a bit of elbow grease, you’ll probably find that your flooring looks completely different after washing. Often grey grouting comes up white and the tiles themselves look brighter and more appealing. You may not have injected any personality into your kitchen yet, but it’ll definitely look brighter and more inviting after a good scrub.

Decorate the walls.

When people hear wallpaper, they often think of florals or geometric shapes, but don’t let those thoughts hold you back. Wallpaper comes in many designs, including replica tiling and wooden cladding. Removable wallpaper is relatively easy to put up, it can be repositioned and moved to different areas of the home. Most removable wallpapers are made to withstand water and moisture, making them a great addition to your kitchen.

Switch up your hardware.

Let’s face it, most rented kitchens have standard cabinets with cheap hardware. Did you know that you can simply unscrew the handles on your cabinets and doors and replace them with something that suits your style? Simply remove the old ones and box them up, making sure to save them for when it’s time to move out.

If your cupboards don’t have handles, a great hack is to use a command strip cut down to size. This will hold your hardware on for the duration of your tenancy, and it’ll come off without any problems when it’s time to clean up and go.

Self Adhesive Cupboards

Sick of your cupboards looking shabby? Self-adhesive paper comes in a variety of different colours and patterns. All you need to do is clean your cupboards, dry them thoroughly, cut the paper to size and apply. This is a quick way to give your whole kitchen a totally new lease of life!

Contact paper countertops

One of my favourite renter-friendly kitchen hacks is the contact paper countertop. Countertops are probably one of the first things that anyone notices when entering the kitchen, so why not jazz yours up by choosing a design that suits your personality more? There’s a huge variety of contact paper available specifically for countertops that comes in different styles and colours. So whether you’re after a marble counter or a deep oak effect for your countertop, this is a brilliant renter-friendly way to achieve your desired look.
