How To Create Your Baby’s Nursery On A Budget

When you are pregnant, you have a vision in your head of the perfect nursery. Sadly, budgets do not always give us the perfect nursery. But however you decide to decorate your nursery, you will be happy with the result. There are so many ways to create a nursery on a budget. Here are some ideas on how to create your baby’s nursery on a budget.

However, if you create your baby’s nursery, it will be personal to you and special for your baby. It will be somewhere that your baby will spend the first few years of their life, a space for them to sleep and relax. A safe space for them.

Decorating

When you are pregnant you need to be careful with sanding and painting in the nursery. In old properties, they used to use paint that contained lead. This can be harmful to your unborn baby. But if your house is a newer build, then you should be safer.

Choose a paint that is a neutral colour. Anything too bright will stimulate the baby at bedtime or if they wake up through the night. You can usually buy a well-priced pot of paint from a hardware store like B and Q. Make sure you measure the wall space that you want to paint, you don’t want to run out of paint halfway through the job. Popular ideas for painting a nursery are to paint the walls in a light beige or cream colour and just have one pastel feature wall.

If you want to put a personal touch into the room and you are good at art, you can paint a mural or some pictures. Or if art isn’t your thing, you can buy some wall art to create an artistic nursery.

Choosing The Flooring

If you are going to lay a carpet, make sure you do it a few months before the baby arrives. This will give the carpet time to settle and dust and carpet particles will have been vacuumed a few times. If you are leaving an old carpet down, you can buy a rug to change the look of the nursery. It will cost so much less money than replacing the whole carpet. You can give the carpet a freshen up naturally with a bit of baking soda. Just sprinkle it on the carpets, leave for a while and then vacuum it away.

If you want to use floorboards as the flooring. And they need painting or varnishing, again be careful as you sand the floor. Dust can get into your chest and again if it is an old house, there could be lead in the paint on the floorboards. Even if the floorboards are not painted, there will still be many years of splashed and spilt paint on the floor. Again you need to do this a few months before the baby arrives. Because you want the nursery to be aired out and free of any paint or gloss fumes. Again, you can use a rug on the floorboards, to add colour to the room and a little bit of comfort too.

Curtains And Blinds

If you choose blinds for your baby’s nursery, you need to keep cleaning them as they are dust traps. They can cause your baby to cough, especially if they develop asthma too. But blinds are simple to put up in the nursery, they let a lot of light and air into a room. Having blinds in a baby’s nursery is a totally personal choice, and you must think about the safety of your baby. Make sure the cord of the blinds is away from your child’s reach, and do not put any furniture or the crib near the blinds. There is always a risk of strangulation.

Curtains are the most popular choice when it comes to creating your baby’s nursery on a budget. You can choose normal lined curtains or blackout curtains that will keep the light out. Measure your window in the nursery before buying curtains. If they are a little too small, you can move the curtain pole down so they fit better. If you are on your own and don’t know how to put curtain poles up, you can buy some tension rods to use instead. They simply go inside the window frame and no drills or screws are needed. Curtains are a cheaper option for your baby’s nursery.

Furniture For The Nursery

You do not need to buy new furniture for your baby’s nursery. Second-hand does not make you any less of a parent. You can buy a crib from Marketplace, eBay or other selling websites, then you just need to buy a new mattress. There are also groups on Facebook that give free things away and you might get everything you need there.

You can also buy budget nursery furniture from shops like Ikea, although you might not get anything as fancy as you want. But you will have new furniture. It doesn’t matter if the furniture doesn’t match either. You can bring unused or little-used furniture from other places in your home. That will save a lot of money that you can put elsewhere.

Your New Nursery

No matter how you choose to create your baby’s nursery. It will be your choice and something for you to be proud of. As you decorate it, you can count down the weeks until your baby arrives. You will have so much fun creating your baby’s nursery but make sure you don’t overwork and tire yourself out.
